Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of this Special Issue will cover new trends in colloid chemistry for antiviral and antibacterial effects. This Special Issue will mainly focus on scientific contributions about (but not limited to) the use of Colloids and Surfaces in following topics:

  • Antiviral surfaces;
  • Antibacterial surfaces;
  • Bacterial biofilms;
  • Vaccine delivery;
  • Drug delivery;
  • Disinfection improvements.

Since the outbreak of SARS COV-2 (Covid-19) disease, the way disinfection is prioritized and accomplished has dramatically changed. Due to the millions of deaths and intensive care units collapsing, all the antiviral and antibacterial processes and products were improved and implemented, specifically in case of comorbidity, predisposition to ashtma or aging and related disorders. An impressive growth of the vaccine and drug progress is taking place, with a challenging need to be tailored for effective delivery.

New strategies, based on different key mechanisms, are now available, and additional ones are under development. The focus of the present SI involves the emergence of next-generation, safer products, with higher efficacy, with a key role of colloids within these new solutions.

Therefore, this Special Issue of Coatings will collect both original research papers and reviews, covering the most recent advances and challenges in the field of colloid chemistry for the next generation of antiviral and antibacterial coatings. We hope that contributions to the present Issue can effectively support research on antiviral, antibacterial, and vaccine coatings, from nano- to macroscale. All manuscripts will be peer reviewed, with those accepted to be published immediately online in this Special Issue.

Best regards,

Dr. Gesmi Milcovich

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
