Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to submit your work to this Special Issue on “Advances in Radiation-Resistant or Laser-Resistant Coatings”. Future advances in radiation-resistant coatings will not only focus on high-tech industries like nuclear energy and aerospace but also expand into consumer and leisure applications, such as wearable electronics, outdoor gear, and space tourism equipment.

Key trends include the development of lightweight, flexible, and multifunctional coatings that can provide effective protection against UV, ionizing radiation, and environmental wear. Nanotechnology will play a central role, enabling ultra-thin coatings with high durability and self-healing capabilities, ideal for both industrial and leisure materials.

For example, advanced textiles used in smart clothing may incorporate such coatings to shield users from harmful radiation during long outdoor exposure or high-altitude sports.

Future coatings will likely combine aesthetic appeal with technical performance, making them suitable for both consumer use and extreme conditions.

In summary, radiation-resistant coatings are evolving beyond traditional fields, with future trends emphasizing lightweight, multifunctional, and wearable applications, bridging the gap between high-tech protection and everyday usability. The topics of interest for this Special Issue, in particular, include (but are not restricted to) the following:

  1. Innovative Materials;
  2. Damage Mitigation Mechanisms;
  3. Thermal and Optical Performance;
  4. Durability and Stability;
  5. Emerging Applications: Exploring uses in aerospace, defense, nuclear, and photonic systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
