Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue “Surface Modifications and Performance Enhancement of Fibers and Its Composites” will cover the various techniques used to enhance the properties of fibers and their composites in making them suitable for industrial applications. The techniques discussed include chemical treatments, plasma treatments, and advanced coating techniques. These techniques allow for tailoring of the surface properties of fibers and composites to meet industrial and commercial requirements. In this Special Issue, we plan to highlight the latest advancements in these techniques and their applications, with a focus on novel research results, review articles, and case studies. In addition, challenges and opportunities in the field will be presented, providing insights into future directions of research and development.

The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together and showcase the latest research findings, developments, and advances in the field of fiber and composite materials. The main focus is to highlight the impact of surface modifications on the performance of fibers and composites and how these modifications can lead to the enhancement of properties such as strength, durability, and overall performance. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and experts to exchange ideas, knowledge, and experiences and to foster collaborations in this exciting and rapidly developing field.

For this Special Issue, submissions of original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Surface treatments and modifications for fiber reinforcement in composites.
  2. Advanced nanocoating techniques for improved fiber durability.
  3. Surface functionalization of fibers for enhanced interface compatibility.
  4. Characterization and evaluation of surface modified fibers.
  5. Surface roughness, wettability, and adhesion properties of fibers.
  6. Surface treatments for improved mechanical performance of fiber composites.
  7. Effects of surface modification on fiber–matrix adhesion.
  8. Surface modification for enhanced biocompatibility of fiber composites.
  9. Advanced fiber surface modification for fire resistance.
  10. Surface modification for improved environmental durability of fiber composites.

We look forward to receiving your contributions!

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
