Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Congenital malformations remain a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, posing significant challenges in terms of diagnosis, perioperative care, and long-term management. Continuous advances in prenatal imaging, genetic testing, fetal intervention, and surgical techniques are transforming the field of neonatal surgery, and yet many aspects of optimal diagnosis and treatment remain unresolved.

This Special Issue, “Advances and Challenges in Neonatal Surgery for Congenital Malformations”, will bring together current knowledge and insights in the surgical management of congenital anomalies in neonates. We welcome contributions from pediatric surgeons, neonatologists, fetal medicine specialists, pathologists, radiologists, and geneticists. Clinical and experimental studies, reviews, and well-documented case reports are all encouraged.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH);
  • Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) and bronchopulmonary sequestration;
  • Esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula;
  • Abdominal wall defects (gastroschisis, omphalocele);
  • Intestinal atresias, malrotation, and related neonatal obstructions;
  • Anorectal and genitourinary malformations;
  • Syndromic and genetic aspects of congenital anomalies;
  • Advances in fetal and minimally invasive neonatal surgery;
  • Pathological and imaging correlations;
  • Perioperative care and long-term outcomes in neonatal surgery.

This Special Issue will highlight recent advancements and ongoing challenges in neonatal surgery, promoting a multidisciplinary approach to improving outcomes and quality of life in infants born with congenital malformations.
