Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are at a pivotal moment in pediatric respiratory medicine. With rapid advances in technology, deeper insights into disease mechanisms, and growing awareness of early-life influences on long-term lung health, the field is developing rapidly—and we need to keep pace.

This Special Issue is about looking forward. We want to showcase work that does not just describe the current status quo but pushes boundaries, asks bold questions, and explores what is coming next.

We are particularly interested in the following:

  • Tackling multidrug resistance in pediatric respiratory infections and exploring innovative approaches to antimicrobial therapy.
  • Exploring approaches in managing interstitial lung diseases, especially those that apply personalized or precision-based strategies.
  • The latest in cystic fibrosis care includes modulator therapies and emerging options for patients not covered by current modulators.
  • Incorporating digital tools, wearables, and AI into how we leverage technology to manage respiratory conditions in children.
  • Reimagining how we deliver care, especially in complex cases where respiratory issues overlap or where multidisciplinary input is key.
  • Strategies for prevention-starting early, and addressing environmental, infectious, and social factors that shape respiratory health from infancy onward.

If you are working on something new, exciting, or challenging in this space, we would welcome your submission for consideration. Our goal is to bring together a collection of papers that reflect where the field is heading—and maybe help it get there a little faster.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Children is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
