Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Following the very successful “25 Years of Proteomics in Cell Biology” Special Issue of Cells, we are happy to announce the opening of a new call for papers to a next Special Issue dedicated to Proteomics.
Aiming to capture the protein composition of biological specimens, from tissue sections or whole cells to subcellular compartments or protein complexes, proteomics has become a core technology in cell biology. Moreover, as a rapidly evolving field on both instrument and application level, mass-spectrometry-based proteomics has proven time and again that it is ready to help us to advance our knowledge of the molecular cell in the coming years. For instance, the maturation of the field of data-independent acquisition (DIA), allowing the generation of more complete and robust datasets, is opening the stage for studies that require the detection of small changes in protein regulation. Cross-linking MS has also grown tremendously to overcome previous obstacles in terms of data tractability and is becoming an established partner methodology in structural biology studies. Finally, numerous bioinformatics resources, many of them online, are now available to scientists, which allow getting unprecedented insights from the data. Some examples of these would be (1) more performant search engines to detect unknown post-translational modifications, (2) statistical packages for easier proteomics analysis of subcellular compartments or (3) other proteomics utility tools to extract functional or taxonomic information from a dataset.

In “Advances in Cell Biology Proteomics”, we would like to showcase exciting stories in cell biology where the use of current state-of-the-art mass spectrometry proteomics technologies have made a key contribution to answer your research question. We welcome submissions of research articles and review papers. Furthermore, since the liquid chromatography method in front of the mass spectrometer is equally important in the success of an LC–MS method, technical notes on liquid chromatography are also of interest. Finally, we will also consider submissions related to developments on sample preparation and data analysis for the analysis of subcellular fractions. Interested authors, please consult the Cells instructions for authors (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/cells/instructions). The deadline for manuscript submission is 30 June 2021.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
