Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced computational frameworks are redefining the landscape of neurobiology. Understanding neuronal cell injury, death, regeneration, and complex brain functions increasingly relies on high-dimensional datasets that transcend single-layer analysis.

This Special Issue welcomes contributions that leverage AI, multi-modal data integration, or both to advance neurobiology. Multi-modal data may include multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics), high-resolution imaging, electrophysiology, and spatial transcriptomics. These approaches offer unprecedented opportunities to uncover cellular pathways, identify biomarkers, and accelerate therapeutic strategies for neuronal repair and neurological disorders. To ensure alignment with Cells’ scope, all submissions should include cell-based validation experiments or mechanistic insights supported by experimental data, rather than focusing solely on computational or statistical analyses.

We invite original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and methodological papers that provide novel biological insights or advance computational methodologies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Multi-omics integration for studying neuronal cell death and regeneration;
  • Imaging-omics fusion techniques for cellular and molecular characterization;
  • AI models for multi-modal data integration and analysis in neurobiology;
  • Single-cell and spatial multi-omics integration for brain research.

We look forward to your contributions to this Special Issue, which aims to foster innovation and collaboration in AI and multi-modal data integration for neurobiology and neurological diseases.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
