Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is an important catalytic process for air purification and the reduction in harmful industrial emissions. VOCs include a wide range of organic substances, such as hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, and aromatic compounds, which can have negative effects on the environment and human health. Catalytic oxidation is an effective method for their removal, as it converts them primarily into carbon dioxide and water at lower temperatures than thermal oxidation. Supported metals and metal oxides are widely used as catalysts for the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) because of their high activity and tunable surface properties. Noble metals such as Pt, Pd, Rh, and Au are particularly effective due to their ability to activate oxygen and promote the oxidation of organic molecules. The catalytic performance is strongly influenced by the type of metal, particle size, dispersion, oxidation state, and the nature of the support, such as Al2O3, TiO2, SiO2, and CeO2. Metal oxides, including MnOx, CoOx, CuO, and CeO2, are also important catalysts because of their redox properties, oxygen mobility, and ability to provide active oxygen species. The interaction between the active metal or oxide and the support can improve catalyst stability and oxidation activity. These catalysts can promote the complete conversion of VOCs into CO2 and H2O at relatively low temperatures, making supported metals and metal oxides promising materials for environmental catalytic applications. This Special Issue will explore the development of advanced supported metal and metal oxide catalysts for the efficient catalytic removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It will also cover innovative catalytic systems evaluated at different scales, ranging from laboratory reactors to pilot-scale plants. Studies investigating catalyst poisoning, thermal and hydrothermal stability, regeneration, and long-term catalytic performance are particularly relevant to this topic.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Catalysts is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
