Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Emerging carbon-based sensors are transforming modern sensing technologies due to their exceptional electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are among the most widely studied materials because of their high thermal and electrical conductivity, large surface area, and excellent sensitivity, making them suitable for detecting gases, chemicals, biomolecules, and environmental pollutants, as well as being able to monitor strain, temperature, and damage in fiber configurations or dispersed in polymeric matrices. In addition to CNTs, other carbon nanomaterials such as graphene, graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, carbon quantum dots, fullerenes, and nanodiamonds have demonstrated significant potential in sensor applications. These materials offer advantages including rapid response, high selectivity, flexibility, low power consumption, and compatibility with portable devices. Ongoing advances in nanofabrication, flexible electronics, and hybrid material design continue to improve sensor performance, enabling applications in healthcare diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and industrial process control,  as well as applications in many engineering fields. The aims of this Special Issue are to highlight recent advances in emerging carbon-based sensor technologies and to provide a platform for disseminating innovative research on them. The Special Issue also seeks to identify challenges, emerging opportunities, and future research directions that will accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation carbon-based sensing technologies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. C is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
