Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Urban renewal and sustainable transportation design are increasingly important for improving the quality, efficiency and resilience of built environments. In many cities, ageing urban districts, inefficient land use, traffic congestion, carbon emissions, environmental pollution and unequal accessibility have created urgent demands for integrated planning and design strategies. Urban renewal is no longer limited to physical redevelopment, but is closely connected with mobility systems, public space quality, low-carbon transitions, social equity and the long-term sustainability of buildings and urban communities.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for research on the interactions between urban renewal, transportation design and sustainable built environment development. We welcome studies that explore theoretical frameworks, planning methods, design strategies, empirical evidence, modelling approaches and policy implications related to renewal-oriented urban transformation and sustainable mobility. Contributions may focus on transit-oriented development, walkability, cycling environments, public transport accessibility, street space redesign, low-carbon transportation, urban regeneration, land-use–transport integration, environmental performance and community-scale sustainability.
Original research articles and review papers are welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, urban renewal and regeneration, sustainable transportation design, transit-oriented development, low-carbon mobility, walkable and bikeable cities, street space optimization, land-use–transport interaction, public transport accessibility, urban design and public space, smart mobility, environmental performance and sustainable built environments.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
