Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping the built environment by integrating computational methods with generative workflows, quantified architectural knowledge and performance-based decision-making. This Special Issue, “Research on Artificial-Intelligence-Driven Built Environment Design”, seeks original contributions that advance AI-enabled approaches across the entire design-to-construction continuum. We welcome research spanning computational and generative design, spatial calculation, data-driven analysis, architectural large language models (LLMs) and multi-agent systems. Additionally, we invite studies on intelligent tools for knowledge integration, digital construction and building performance assessment. Submissions may present novel algorithms, datasets, evaluation frameworks or applied design prototypes. We particularly encourage transparent and reliable AI methods that foster human–AI collaboration, expand creative exploration and address complex environmental and technical constraints. By bridging architectural design with computer science and engineering, this issue aims to establish rigorous, practical pathways for sustainable innovation in the AI-driven built environment.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
