Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue centers on optical biosensors—devices that harness light to detect biomolecular targets—and their translation into biomedical practice. Despite remarkable laboratory advances, clinical adoption lags due to poor reproducibility, matrix interference, and insufficient point‑of‑care validation. Our goal is to showcase research that directly tackles these barriers. The scope includes novel transduction mechanisms (SPR, photonic crystals, fiber gratings, Raman, fluorescence), advanced nanomaterials, microfluidic integration, AI‑enhanced signal processing, and portable/wearable formats. Applications cover early cancer diagnosis, infectious pathogen identification, real-time metabolite tracking, and cardiac biomarker monitoring. Interdisciplinary contributions that merge optics, materials science, bioengineering, and clinical medicine are strongly encouraged. Together, we aim to accelerate the journey from innovative optical concepts to robust, affordable, and user‑friendly biosensors that can deliver timely, actionable information at the bedside, in the clinic, and in underserved communities worldwide.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
