Dear Colleagues,
Ensuring food safety and environmental protection are paramount global challenges. The rapid and sensitive detection of pollutants (such as foodborne pathogens, heavy metals, pesticides, and aquatic toxins) is crucial for public health. Therefore, the demand for rapid, sensitive, cost-effective, and portable analytical tools suitable for on-site real-time monitoring is constantly increasing. The optical biosensors—leveraging techniques like surface plasmon resonance (SPR), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), fluorescence, and colorimetric analysis—have emerged as state-of-the-art technologies to meet these demands. They offer remarkable sensitivity, potential for label-free detection, and excellent adaptability for miniaturization. Therefore, this Special Issue "Advances in Optical Biosensors for Food and Environmental", focuses on recent breakthroughs in the design, fabrication, and application of optical biosensing platforms tailored for complex sample matrices. We invite submissions of original research articles and comprehensive reviews that explore novel biorecognition elements, optical nanomaterials, innovative signal amplification strategies, multiplexed detection, and the development of portable point-of-need devices. Studies that help advance the field toward practical, robust, and real-world applications in food quality control and environmental monitoring are highly encouraged.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
