Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Dental implant therapy has been a transformative success in modern dentistry, offering patients esthetic and functionally superior solutions for tooth replacement; however, critical challenges persist, particularly in cases involving inadequate bone volume, aging populations, and patients with systemic conditions that complicate treatment outcomes. Advances in biomaterials, implant surface technologies, and digital innovations have significantly improved the predictability and longevity of implant therapies.

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a groundbreaking tool in the field of dentistry, enhancing diagnostics, treatment planning, and outcome prediction. AI-driven imaging analysis, the automated assessment of bone quality, and machine learning-assisted regenerative strategies are revolutionizing how clinicians approach bone augmentation and implant therapies. Additionally, AI-powered decision support systems and digital workflow integration are optimizing patient-specific treatment approaches, ultimately improving precision and clinical success.

This Special Issue aims to explore cutting-edge advancements in biomaterials, novel implant technologies, and the role of AI in bone regeneration and implant therapy. We welcome contributions on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Next-generation biomaterials for bone regeneration and their impact on implant success.
  • Innovative implant surface technologies and implant–abutment connection interfaces.
  • AI-assisted diagnostics for bone quality assessment and treatment planning.
  • Machine learning applications in predicting implant success and complications.
  • The 3D printing and AI-driven design of patient-specific grafting materials and scaffolds.
  • Digital workflow optimization in implant placement and prosthetic rehabilitation.
  • Clinical studies and systematic reviews on AI integration in implant therapies.

By incorporating the latest advancements in biomaterials, technology, and AI, this Special Issue will provide a comprehensive perspective on the future of bone regeneration and dental implant therapies. We look forward to your contributions and to collectively advancing the field through innovative and interdisciplinary research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
