Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Centrosomes, composed of two centrioles, serve as the primary microtubule-organizing centers (MTOCs) in animal cells controlling spindle formation, cell polarity, and intracellular trafficking. Their precise duplication and integrity are critical to prevent abnormal cell division and dysfunction. Cilia originate from specialized centrioles called basal bodies and are key for sensory signaling. Defects in these organelles cause a range of human disorders known as ciliopathies, highlighting their importance in cell architecture, development, and disease.
Advances in imaging, proteomics, and model systems have provided unprecedented insights into their structure, dynamics, and regulation. By combining molecular, structural, and physiological perspectives, this Special Issue “Biogenesis and Function of Centrioles, Centrosomes, and Primary Cilia in Health and Disease” seeks to clarify how these organelles maintain cellular organization and how their dysfunction contributes to disease. We welcome original research articles and reviews covering, but not limited to, the following topics: centriole and centrosome biogenesis, assembly mechanisms, spatial regulation, cytoskeletal interactions, and ciliary structure and function in health and disease.
