Dear Colleagues,
Plant underground tissues, such as roots and microbial interaction interfaces in the rhizosphere, serve as crucial hubs for the exchange of materials and information between plants and their soil environments. Similarly, aboveground organs (e.g., leaves, stems, and reproductive structures) play vital roles in metabolite production and environmental adaptation. The formation and regulation of plant metabolites not only influence whole-plant growth, development, nutrient uptake, and stress resistance but are also closely linked to ecosystem functionality and agricultural sustainability. Recent advancements in metabolomics, spatial omics, and synthetic biology technologies have provided new insights into understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of plant metabolic networks across tissues and organs. However, the mechanisms by which plants regulate the biosynthesis of metabolites through multidimensional interactions involving genetics, environmental factors, and microbial symbiosis remain a pivotal scientific frontier warranting in-depth exploration.
We are pleased to invite you to submit manuscripts focused on the mechanisms of metabolites in plants, as well as technological innovations and their applications. This research aims to clarify the regulatory mechanisms of plant metabolic networks, providing a theoretical foundation and technological frameworks for precision agriculture, ecosystem restoration, and advancements in plant synthetic biology.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Biosynthesis pathways and regulatory networks of plant metabolites.
- Networks of plant–microbe–environment interactions mediated by metabolites.
- Technological innovations and strategies for multi-omics integration, including spatial metabolomics, integrated multi-omics analysis, gene editing, and synthetic biology.
- Applied research focused on agriculture and ecology.
