Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Decision-making plays an important role in many forms of psychological functioning and dysfunction. Individuals constantly make choices that affect their mental health, relationships, treatment engagement, and everyday well-being. A growing body of research suggests that decision-making styles and processes and personality traits shape how individuals evaluate options, regulate impulses, respond to emotional cues, and anticipate consequences in daily life. However, the psychological mechanisms connecting personality and decision-making to understand behaviors remain insufficiently understood.
This Special Issue aims to advance our understanding of how personality and decision-making connect with real behavior. We invite contributions that examine the cognitive, emotional, and motivational processes that connect personality characteristics, including personality traits and maladaptive personality disorders, and patterns of decision-making with mental health outcomes, such as treatment adherence, substance use, self-regulation, interpersonal conflict, or coping with stress. Relevant topics may also include risk-taking, impulsivity, reward and punishment sensitivity, emotion-driven decision-making, interpersonal decision processes, or difficulties in long-term goal prioritization.
By integrating personality and decision-making in a perspective focused on processes, this Special Issue seeks to illuminate how personality characteristics and decision processes shape psychological resilience, vulnerability and risk behaviors. A better understanding of these mechanisms has the potential to inform better assessment strategies to guide more precise interventions that target maladaptive decision patterns in individuals and groups.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Behavioral Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
