Dear Colleagues,
On the heels of the rapid development of portable electronics, electric vehicles, and renewable energy, electrochemical energy storage (EES) devices including batteries and supercapacitors have become more prevalent. Although significant progress has been made in EES in the last few decades, their properties are often barely able to meet the material and device demands. Electrode materials are key components of EES devices, and largely determine their energy storage performance. The structural design, compositing strategies and chemical and physical mechanisms of electrode materials on atomistic and mesoscopic levels play a significant part in improving their electrochemical properties. Moreover, spurred by the rapid development of practical applications, emerging features such as small size, flexibility and wearability as well as high energy/power density and high mechanical strength are calling for advanced EES devices. New designs for the structure of EES devices is considered a key approach.
In this Special Issue, we are looking for contributions helping to:
- Develop new electrode materials with high power and energy density;
- Understand energy storage mechanisms;
- Develop new approaches to monitor the state of batteries;
- Design high-energy-density batteries;
- Improve the safety and life of devices;
- Recover electrode materials;
- Develop new devices to cope with extreme environments;
- Develop multivalent ion batteries;
- Generate innovative accelerated protocols for batteries;
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Synthesis, preparation and characterization of electrochemical energy storage materials;
- The development of advanced electrochemical energy storage technology;
- Understanding energy storage mechanisms through in situ and ex situ technologies;
- New applications of electrochemical energy storage devices;
- Industrial policy analysis of electrochemical energy storage;
- Flexible and wearable energy storage devices;
- Alkaline secondary ion batteries (Li ion/Na ion/K ion);
- Solid-state batteries;
- Battery recycling technology.
