Special Issue Information
The transition toward sustainable energy systems has intensified the need for advanced analytical tools that can support efficient planning, deployment, and management of renewable energy resources. This Special Issue welcomes high-quality contributions that explore cutting-edge methodologies integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial analysis, and artificial intelligence (AI) to address emerging challenges in the renewable energy sector. It also welcomes research articles in the domains of biofuels, environmental catalysis, and energy, particularly those that incorporate spatial analysis of resource distributions and spatially explicit assessments.
Recent progress in geospatial technologies—ranging from high-resolution remote sensing data to real-time environmental monitoring—has enabled more accurate assessments of solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and bioenergy potential. In parallel, AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, and spatial decision-support algorithms enhance predictive modeling, optimize site selection, and improve energy production forecasting. The combination of GIS-based spatial analytics with AI-driven approaches offers unprecedented opportunities for identifying optimal locations for renewable infrastructure, analyzing spatial–temporal variability, assessing environmental impacts, and supporting adaptive energy management under climate change scenarios.
This Special Issue welcomes research articles, reviews, and case studies that highlight technological innovations, novel workflows, and interdisciplinary applications. Topics include but are not limited to spatial modeling, resource mapping, multi-criteria decision analysis, AI-enhanced geospatial forecasting, and integrated frameworks for sustainable renewable energy planning.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
