Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The fundamental understanding of soil and sand physical and mechanical properties is critical to the advancement of geotechnical engineering and applied science.
These geomaterials, which make up the Earth's crust, govern the behaviour of a wide array of civil engineering structures, from foundations and retaining walls to tunnels and dams. As the demands on infrastructure grow and the challenges posed by climate change and urban development intensify, the need for both innovative geomaterials and advanced characterization methods has become more pressing than ever, with the goal of gaining a deeper understanding of physical and mechanical behaviour.
To move beyond the limitations of traditional testing, this Special Issue is dedicated to cutting-edge solutions that enhance the reliability of analyses. We specifically invite contributions centered on the following interconnected themes:
- Experimental Modeling: The use of advanced physical modeling and laboratory/in situ testing methods to investigate soil and sand behaviour.
- Advanced Modeling: The development and application of constitutive modeling and predictive numerical modeling to simulate soil.
- Innovative Characterization: The application of advanced characterization methods including modern imaging approaches for more comprehensive and accurate evaluation of soil properties and behaviour.
- Material Performance: A focus on resilience material evaluation, assessing the performance of both natural and engineered recycled materials.
We seek contributions that push the boundaries of current knowledge, including the application of advanced geophysical techniques, machine learning for data interpretation, and numerical models that simulate real-world conditions. The goal of this collection is to showcase the synergy between material innovation and advanced characterization, providing engineers and researchers with critical tools and knowledge for designing the next generation of resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
