Dear Colleagues,
Rehabilitation medicine is undergoing a transformative shift driven by rapid advancements in technology. Innovations such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), wearable sensors, brain–computer interfaces (BCIs), and tele-rehabilitation platforms are reshaping how clinicians assess, monitor, and treat patients with physical, neurological, and cognitive impairments. These technologies enable personalized, data-driven interventions, improve patient engagement, and expand access to rehabilitation services beyond traditional clinical settings.
The integration of digital health solutions into rehabilitation practice has become increasingly important in addressing the growing global burden of disability due to aging populations, chronic diseases, and injuries. Moreover, emerging technologies are bridging gaps between hospital-based care and home-based recovery, facilitating continuous monitoring and adaptive therapy strategies. Despite these advances, challenges remain regarding clinical validation, usability, cost-effectiveness, and ethical considerations.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to explore cutting-edge developments and practical applications of advanced technologies in rehabilitation medicine.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent innovations, clinical applications, and future directions in technology-enhanced rehabilitation. It seeks to bring together interdisciplinary research spanning biomedical engineering, clinical rehabilitation, neuroscience, and digital health.
The topic aligns closely with the journal’s scope by addressing novel therapeutic strategies, translational research, and evidence-based clinical practices that improve patient outcomes. The Special Issue will focus on both technological development and its real-world implementation in rehabilitation settings, ensuring a balance between innovation and clinical relevance.
Original research articles, reviews, and short communications are welcome in this Special Issue.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
