Dear Colleagues,
The field of architecture requires digital platforms with high visualization capabilities and intuitive interaction to serve as valuable tools for project development, supporting every stage of the process. BIM methodology is being adopted across all sectors of the construction industry, with particularly high visibility in architecture. The efficiency of BIM implementation is being enhanced by the integration of interactive and immersive features—such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) and extended reality (EX) technologies—and, more recently, by advanced technological add-ons involving artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins, and blockchain; these innovations help drive the sector's digital transformation, a key objective encouraged at the government level. Aspects related to the circular economy (CE), Lean construction, and prefabricated or modular construction are frequently addressed during the architectural design process in the pursuit of optimized solutions that meet relevant environmental sustainability requirements. Areas such as maintenance, construction planning, and environmental sustainability are increasingly becoming targets for the application of BIM/AI integration, resulting in clear improvements in process automation. Research studies and recent case studies that demonstrate a significant, positive, and innovative contribution to the necessary digitalization of the construction sector are the types of scientifically valuable proposals sought for this special session.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
