Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The transition toward a more sustainable and resilient built environment requires innovative building materials aimed at lowering the environmental impacts while maintaining high levels of performance, durability, and safety. In response to global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and rising energy demand, the construction sector is increasingly focused on developing low-carbon, resource-efficient, and environmentally friendly materials. Green building materials play a key role in improving the sustainability of buildings and infrastructures throughout their life cycle. Recent advances have led to the development of innovative binders, supplementary cementitious materials, recycled and secondary raw materials, self-sensing and self-healing cement-based composites, and high-performance materials with reduced environmental footprints. These solutions contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, decreasing energy consumption, and promoting circular economy principles.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent innovations and practical applications of sustainable construction materials. Original research and review papers addressing material development, characterization, durability, and real-world implementation are welcome. Particular attention will be given to submissions on innovative binders, sustainable high-performance concretes, advanced protective systems for concrete structures, structural health monitoring, self-healing materials, and non-destructive characterization techniques.
Studies focusing on CO2 reduction, resource efficiency, waste valorization, and life cycle assessment are also encouraged, contributing to the advancement of durable, smart, and environmentally responsible construction materials.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
