Dear Colleagues,
Mining engineering stands at a pivotal intersection of tradition and transformation. As one of the oldest organised human activities, mining continues to underpin the global supply of raw materials essential to modern civilisation—from metals and construction materials to solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels. The 2nd Edition of this Special Issue, “Mining Engineering: Present and Future Prospectives,” builds on the success of the inaugural edition by deepening the scientific discourse on current challenges and emerging directions in the field.
This edition focuses on the complex interplay between technological innovation, environmental responsibility, and operational safety. Mining is rapidly evolving through the adoption of automation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and remote-controlled systems, which collectively reshape productivity, safety culture, and resource efficiency. At the same time, increasing regulatory and societal pressure demands sustainable practices, responsible waste management, and a reduced environmental footprint throughout the mining lifecycle.
For this Special Issue, we invite contributions spanning a broad range of topics, including underground and surface mining methods, rock mechanics, tunnelling, blast-induced effects, mine ventilation and safety, mining automation and integration, artificial intelligence applications, life cycle assessment, post-mining land rehabilitation, and circular economy approaches to mining waste. The editors welcome original research articles, review papers, and case studies that advance the understanding and practice of modern mining engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
