Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recent advances in X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT), digital metrology, image analysis and material characterization have created new opportunities for understanding the relationship between internal structure, defects, morphology and the mechanical behavior of materials. This Special Issue aims to bring together original research and review papers focused on the use of X-ray CT and related characterization methods for engineering, biomedical and advanced manufactured materials.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, CT-based dimensional inspection, defect detection, porosity and microstructural analysis, image segmentation, morphology-based material descriptors, mechanical testing supported by imaging data, additive manufacturing, welding and joining technologies, porous and lattice structures, foams, biomaterials, implants, composites, metals, polymers, ceramics and energy-related materials. Contributions involving AI-assisted image processing, deep learning, automated defect recognition, in situ or 4D CT, multimodal imaging, digital twins, finite element models based on CT data and advanced quality control are also welcome.

The goal of this Special Issue is to provide a broad platform for studies connecting imaging, measurement, material structure and mechanical performance, with applications in industry, biomechanics, quality assurance and advanced manufacturing.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
