Veterinary Epidemiology and Virology: Insights into Epidemics of Animal Origin

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will provide a comprehensive platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research and insights into epidemics of animal origin. We aim to bring together diverse perspectives on how epidemiological principles and virological advancements can be used to enhance surveillance, risk assessment, and control and prevention strategies for viral diseases originating in animals. The scope of this Special Issue covers a broad range of topics, including the following:

• Emerging and re-emerging viral diseases of animal origin, including their molecular characteristics, pathogenesis, and evolutionary dynamics;
• Epidemiological investigations into viral disease outbreaks in livestock, wildlife, and companion animals, focusing on transmission routes, risk factors, and spatial–temporal patterns;
• The development and application of diagnostic tools for early detection and rapid response in epidemics of animal origin;
• One Health approaches that integrate animal, human, and environmental health perspectives for comprehensive disease management;
• Vaccine development and evaluation strategies for preventing and controlling viral diseases in animal populations;
• The impact of environmental and anthropogenic factors on the emergence and spread of pathogens of animal origin;
• Genomic surveillance and phylodynamic analyses to track viral evolution, transmission, and spillover events.

We invite original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and methodological papers that will contribute to our understanding of veterinary epidemiology and virology in the context of epidemics of animal origin. We look forward to receiving your submissions and highlighting the vital role of these disciplines in safeguarding both animal and public health.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
