Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are an integral component of modern agricultural systems due to their high economic value and multifunctional uses. Growing pressure on agroecosystems, along with the rising demand for sustainable inputs and high-quality plant-derived products, has driven research focused on optimized cultivation practices, quality assurance, and efficient processing technologies for MAPs.
This Special Issue focuses on agricultural and applied research on medicinal and aromatic plants. It aims to present recent advancements in the field that enhance productivity, ensure product consistency, and expand the applicability of MAPs within contemporary and sustainable agricultural frameworks. Submissions may include (but are not limited to) the following topics:
- Cultivation strategies and advanced crop management practices for MAPs;
- Phenology-dependent variations in yield, essential oil content, and phytochemical quality;
- Sustainable plant protection strategies, including eco-friendly pest and disease control;
- The development of value-added products and bioactivity-driven outcomes;
- Innovative post-harvest handling and processing technologies;
- Approaches integrating resource-use efficiency, scalability, and field-to-industry translational research.
Studies that incorporate sustainability, resource-use efficiency, and scalability from field production to industrial application are of particular interest.
We welcome original research articles, short communications, and critical reviews addressing cultivation strategies, quality evaluation and standardization, processing methods, plant protection management, and application-oriented outcomes relevant to modern agricultural production systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
