Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Agribusiness is central to food security, not only through production but also through the organization, upgrading, and governance of value chains. Feeding a projected population of nearly 10 billion people by 2050 will require increasing food production by approximately 70%, underscoring the need for transformative innovation. This challenge is further compounded by intensifying pressures from climate change, natural resource constraints, and supply-chain instability. Addressing these pressures requires targeted innovation in how agribusinesses produce, process, and deliver food, while simultaneously reducing losses and improving system resilience.
This Special Issue focuses on three interconnected pillars that shape food system outcomes: (1) resilient and efficient agri-food value chains; (2) the circular bioeconomy and bio-based innovation; and (3) enabling policies and market mechanisms that accelerate adoption and scaling. We particularly welcome studies that provide empirical evidence, robust frameworks, or actionable insights into reducing post-harvest losses and waste; digitalization and traceability across value chains; valorization of agricultural residues and by-products; business models and partnerships that strengthen SMEs and farmer inclusion; and policy or funding mechanisms that support sustainable transitions and food system resilience.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
