Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, big data, and cognitive computing is fundamentally reshaping contemporary educational paradigms. While these technologies offer unprecedented capabilities to model learner behavior and personalize instruction, effectively integrating large-scale, multimodal educational data with cognitive computing frameworks remains a critical challenge for researchers and practitioners.

This Special Issue aims to explore the intersection of cognitive computing and big data within educational contexts. We seek rigorous empirical studies, methodological innovations, and systematic reviews that demonstrate how data-driven models can optimize learning analytics and pedagogical outcomes. The issue aligns closely with the core scope of BDCC by emphasizing the computational and cognitive aspects of processing complex educational data to enhance human learning.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

Learning analytics and educational data mining

Design, deployment, and evaluation of Educational Large Language Models (LLMs)

Intelligent tutoring systems and adaptive learning environments

Cognitive computing approaches for assessing higher-order thinking skills

Multimodal data integration and processing in educational technologies

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Big Data and Cognitive Computing is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
