Cover Story: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a major form of head and neck cancer (HNC), significantly impacting global health. Late diagnosis and the limited effectiveness of conventional treatments contribute to high morbidity and mortality rates. Early diagnosis is crucial for improving clinical outcomes, but current techniques, like biopsy, are invasive and have limitations. Recently, saliva has emerged as a non-invasive diagnostic tool, thanks to its easy collection and the presence of analytes useful for identifying biomarkers. OMICS technologies, like proteomics and genomics, offer insights into molecular changes in OSCC patients’ saliva, opening opportunities for early diagnosis and prognosis.
