Cover Story: This study investigates the role of alcohol consumption as a risk factor for cancer using the two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) technique, an innovative epidemiological method that minimizes confounding and reverse causation. By leveraging genetic variants as instrumental variables, this research provides novel insights into the causal relationship between alcohol intake and cancer development. The study highlights the importance of understanding genetic and environmental interactions in cancer risk, particularly focusing on the mechanisms linking alcohol metabolism to DNA damage and carcinogenesis. These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence on alcohol’s impact on public health and underscore the need for targeted prevention strategies, especially in populations with distinct genetic predispositions.
