Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this report, author reports that combination therapy with Saffron (why ip?) and Salbutamol (oral? Neb?) prevents development of asthma.

Although Saffron has an interest effect for attenuating airway inflammation, research design and approach are insufficient. Why author did not put single administration group? Why were weight and % of hemoglobin in asthma group decreased? These phenomena could be induced by artifacts but not OVA sensitization and challenge. Moreover, detail experimental protocol including timing and pathway is not described well. Introduction and discussion are too long and looks like review. Author should introduce and discuss about combination therapy Saffron with salbutamol or dexamethasone.

Minor point: In general, group B must be positive but not negative control group.

Reviewer 2 Report

The study entitled "Anti-Asthmatic effects of Saffron extract and Salbutamol in an ovalbumin-induced airway model of allergic Asthma" done by Pranav Nair et al. is very interesting in the field of asthma treatment. THis study aimed to investigate the combined anti-asthmatic effect of C. sativus extract (CSE) and salbutamol in an ovalbumin (OVA)- induced asthma in rats. The present study is very original and adds a new idea about the role of traditional medicine in asthma treatment. In addition, the results obtained from this study are relevant and interesting which showed that the combined effect of CSE and salbutamol exhibited anti-asthmatic properties via its anti-inflammatory effect and by alleviating Th2 mediated immune response. Therefore, this treatment combination could be considered as a new therapeutic strategy for management of asthma. Moreover, the paper is well written and the text is clear and easy to read. Finally, the conclusions are consistent with the evidence and arguments presented to answer the main question posed.
Hence, this manuscript can be published in Special issue of Sinusitis [ Allergic Rhinitis - Rhinosinusitis and Airway Diseases]
