Cover Story: Nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4) is a promising cathode material for supercapacitors due to its large specific capacitance, low cost, and good safety. However, single NiCo2O4 materials with various structures usually show limited kinetic characteristics because of the small surface area and low conductivity. Integrating carbon nanomaterials with NiCo2O4 is first established and then implemented, where the synergistic effects between two components have sustainable improvement for electrochemical performances. In this paper, the recent research on the hybrids of NiCo2O4 and carbon nanomaterials for supercapacitors is reviewed. Typically, we focus on the reports related to the composites containing graphene (or reduced graphene oxide), carbon nanotubes, and amorphous carbon, as well as the major synthesis routes and electrochemical performances.
