Cover Story: Our ability to digitize the built environment constantly flourishes and improves with new instruments and algorithms, while the topic of access and use of these digitized data is still being explored. An emerging solution with significant potential is represented by the web platforms for the management of 3D data. These platforms provide to their users an eased access to 3D data and various tools to interact with the geometries, extracting and adding information. This article provides a panoramic view of the main available solutions analyzing the current state of the art, the main typologies of web platforms according to their business models and target users, and their foreseeable future evolution.
