In this interesting work by Bing Li and colleagues named "Fast segmentation of vertebrae CT image based on the SNIC algorithm" the authors proposed a medical image segmentation algorithm based on simple non-iterative clustering (SNIC). Experimental results showed that the algorithm uses an improved superpixel segmentation method on downscaling images, which can increase the segmentation speed when segmenting various medical images, without reducing segmentation accuracy. 

Automatic image segmentation plays an important role in various image processing fields, as correctly stated by the authors. In the specific case, the algorithm implemented is well esplained and discussed. Figures and tables are weel performed and discussed. I list here my concerns:

• Introduction section is really too long. Please, summarize it and move some parts to the discussion section (for instance, line 87-107 may be moved to the discussione section)
• line 112 syntax error
• lines 269-274 should be moved to methods section

Considering all these aspects, I would consider this paper for publication, once reviewed as suggested above.
