Cover Story: Colour image daltonisation refers to the process of recolouring digital images in order to make them more readily interpretable for colour vision deficient observers. A previously developed method based on recolouring in the gradient domain followed by reintegration gave good results in both behavioural and psychometric experiments. The method was, however, computationally expensive, and tended to produce visible halo artefacts. In the current paper, we propose (i) a new simple colour domain daltonisation method to use as an initial value for reintegration, and (ii) to use linear anisotropic diffusion instead of the Poisson equation. Together, this results in an improved computational efficiency and a significant reduction in visible halo artefacts. View this paper
