Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The work by Delgado, Fabelo, Pasan and coworkers describes the magnetic properties of the molecular compound [Mn(mal)(Hâ‚‚O)]â‚™ by integrating microscopic and macroscopic 13 characterization combining unpolarized neutron diffraction and magnetometry measurements. The research was conducted very well, and the results were very interesting. The results support the conclusions.

I have only a few remarks about the manuscript. Some of them refer to small English issues, such as:

Page 1, line 33. Please include the reference number before the punctuation.

Page 1, line 38. The correct is bistability, not bi-stability

Page 1, line 41. Please include the references before the punctuation.

Page 2, line 62. Focus on…

Page 2, line 72, … thermal (not Thermal) …

Page 2, line 74: … relaxation (not Relaxation)…

Page 3. Please include the resultant mass in the synthesis on line 109

Page 4, line 9. Replace restaints by restraints

Page 5, line 172. Please include the probability level of the ellipsoids.

Page 5, line 182. Please, provide the meaning of bpe, bpa,

Page 6, line 202, replace “green lo illustrate” by “green to illustrate”

Page 9, line 285. Replace “have been” by “has been”

Page 12, line 339, replace “is the described” by “is described”

Page 14, line 418, replace “…bridge exhibit” by “…bridge exhibits…”

Page 15, line 504, replace “…crystallization water…” by “…crystallization of water…”

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The present paper is devoted to the crystallographic and magnetic properties of a manganese malonate compound, which has been studied for four decades, including key contributions by profs. Julve and Lloret. The paper includes a long and detailed description of the known crystallographic and macroscopic magnetic properties of that compound, well suited to the purpose of this especial issue of Magnetochemistry, along with new neutron diffraction measurements on both powdered and single crystal samples, with a detailed analysis of the magnetic structure at very low temperature (below 3 K).

The presentation of the crystal structure is supportive in understanding the analysis of the magnetic structure in terms of Shubnikov space groups. The authors have also been able to locate the hydrogen atoms in a non-deuterated sample, taking advantage of the very low temperature of the measurement. The description of the procedure helps follow the arguments easily, and the authors neatly indicate its limitations, mainly associated to the accurate determination of the magnetic moment of the weak ferromagnetic component, my.

In general, the paper is well written and I recommend it to be published, but the authors should go over the text to correct orthographic and punctuation typos, over 20 in addition to the following:

Technically Fisher's expressions is only valid for infinite S. How can you discard that the "additional mean-field correction" is not a correction to the limitations of the infinite S approximation instead of an actual interchain interaction? (j is 2 orders of magnitude smaller than J).

The sentence in lines 63 to 76 should be revised and rewritten, since it seems something was left during their preparation of the manuscript.

Mn(II) is more often used in the paper, but Mn2+ is used a couple of times. Please, choose one.

The English ending “-or” is preferred to “-our” in the text, as in American English, but a few “-our” endings. Please, stick to one standard version of English.

Use “fit” for “fitting” in line 315.

Use “fixed to” instead of “fixed at”.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This paper is a valuable addition to the field of molecular magnetism, providing a well-executed investigation into the magnetic properties of [Mn(mal)(Hâ‚‚O)]â‚™. It clearly integrates macroscopic and microscopic techniques to deliver a thorough and convincing account of the material’s magnetic structure and behavior. I suggest as very minor revisions to streamline the introduction, the reader would benefit of that; in any case, the manuscript will be an exemplary piece of scientific literature, thus I strongly suggest publication even in its present form.
