2024 August-2 - 130 articles

Cover Story: Patient safety is a fundamental pillar in healthcare. Since 2004, the World Health Organization (WHO) has promoted the Global Alliance for Patient Safety with the aim of minimizing preventable harm in healthcare through ten key lines of action. However, according to the EPINE 2021 study in Spain, 1 in 10 hospitalized patients suffers preventable harm, and 76.57% use peripheral venous catheters (PVCs). Low adherence to PVC management protocols increases catheter loss by 80% and raises cannulation costs by 46.84%, directly affecting patient safety and well-being. This study highlights the importance of continuous training of nursing staff and the rigorous application of evidence-based protocols to prevent complications, improve the quality of care and optimize hospital resources, thereby reducing associated costs and improving clinical outcomes.
