Cover Story: There is an exponential increase in studies demonstrating the positive impact of a religious/spirituality (R/S) approach on physical and mental health. In mental health units, patients want professionals to be sensitive to their spiritual and/or religious needs, fundamental to a holistic approach. This qualitative research shows that, although there is no consensus on the definition of spirituality, professionals believe that it positively influences patients' health in coping with mental illness. They believe that their own R/S can influence the clinical relationship and their attention to the spiritual. Indeed, few attend to these needs, citing constraints such as lack of time and lack of specific training. More research on spiritual care is needed to define a specific training framework in mental health.
