The article is well done.

The structure of the article is good and presents a theoretical substantiation, working method, results, discussions and conclusions.

The working method is presented in detail.

The statistical analysis of the data collected through the questionnaire is presented.

The conclusions are in agreement with the researched subject.

The work discusses the implementation of block mode flipped classroom online in sets of undergraduate and graduate courses. While I believe the article could stand alone as a short report, there are various suggestions that could be implemented so further enhance the article:

1)     The authors could further expand on how their findings would be relevant to higher education at large, such as distance learning and remote learning? There are brief discussions from line 391 onwards, but I believe that could be further elaborate on to help readers understand better why their work adds to the scholarship.

2)      Line 259: It is not clear why the authors expected normal distribution and the authors could elaborate on that. Also, I believe there is a minor typo where it should be “conform” and not “confirm”.

3)      I would tend to think that the claim in line 151 would be overly specific, because it may not be usual (or at least intentional) to combine these two teaching concepts even in a traditional classroom setting.

4)      I would like to point the authors to an recent implementation of a form of flipped classroom in an online environment approach: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/9766498 where they have designed a collaborative virtual dissection activity based on the students’ earlier learning about energy systems.

Title: An empirical study of students’ perception of and key factors affecting overall satisfaction in an intensive block mode and flipped classroom Submitted to section: Technology Enhanced Education,

 This study assesses how students perceived their experience studying a certificate course that was delivered in an online intensive block mode and flipped classroom (BMFC) pedagogy amidst COVID-19 restrictions.

The paper addresses a current and interesting topic. The aim of the work is interesting and the research is novel in its field. The following are some suggestions for improving the paper. We will begin with ours main concerns, and then we will share a few minor comments.

 MAIN CONCERN:

1. The structure of the paper is clear and there is adequate literature and related work documented.

2.  Methodological Approach

The rating scale used for these 10 questions is the star rating, with the highest rating being 5 stars while the lowest rating being 1 star. The choice of this rating was decided in consultation with the campus administration at MIT. There has been study in the open literature on impacts of different pictural scale to responses. In [25], the authors concluded from their study that response categories can have a significant effect on respondent answers and that hearts and stars designs received lower average scores compared to the other formats.

 

Authors should further explain why they choose the stars design in the answers category.
