Recent Advancements in the Tribological Modelling of Rough Interfaces
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The degree of surface roughness has a significant effect on the friction and wear performance, and the research in this paper has theoretical significance. The authors describe the contribution of this research and analyze the Boundary Element Method. However, the following problems need to be further discussed.
1. The title of the paper does not match well with the content. Based on the title, this paper should be a review article, but the content of the elaboration is not well reflected.
2. The description of the abstract does not give the main idea of this paper.
3. Tribology should include friction. The key words are not reasonable.
4. Lines 206-207 are incomplete.
5. The diagram should be explicitly presented in the body of the text, such as Figures 5 and 6.
6. A summary would be more appropriate.

Reviewer 2 Report
This review paper fits within the scope of the Journal. The significance of this paper is reflected in the number of reviewed references. The presentation of the results is solid, and selected figures contribute to the clearness of the presented results.
Terminology is acceptable, but some technical improvements should be done according to the following suggestions:
- Line 8 – Chapter numeration started with 0? Maybe it is better to start with 1 “1. Introduction”.
- Line 112 – An expression by the end of this line I suggest to put in the new line and numerate with (1).
- In Figure 1 title, please try to shortly describe picture content without too much explanation and sentences. So please, sentence "Notably, L and l indicate the roughness peak and fundamental wavelength, respectively.” remove in the text before or after the figure. In this sentence, please separate the words “wavelength”. Also, symbol “L” is not shown and clear? Did you mean “D”?
- On the page 4 you missed to numerate two expressions/equations before expression (3).
- Line 128 on the page 5, please put step (6) instead of (vi).
- Line 142 – in the title please correct word “formualtion” into “formulation”.
- Similar to the figure 1, in the rest figures 2 – 6, please do the same to shortly describe pictures content without too much explanation and sentences within the title. Adequate discussion please write in the text before or after picture.
- Please check the text format, on the page 12 there is only figure 5. without text.
Provided the above listed improvements are implemented, the paper can be recommended for publication.

Round 2
Reviewer 1 Report
The author has made reasonable modifications to the problem. However, there are many problems in the paper format. For example, (a) and (b) in FIG. 4-6 indicate that reference 1 is missing. The author should examine the full text carefully.
Author Response
We have revised the figures and carefully carried out a spell check of the document.
