Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article title “ Biological hydrogen production by dark fermentation in a stirred tank reactor and its correlation with the pH time evolution” by Cassanello discussed the dark fermentation and the effect of the pH on the hydrogen generating process. The article well-presented and I have minor comment

1.       The references used in the manuscript are not up to date.

2.       Literature review must include in the introduction  part.

3.       A comparison with recently published article needs to be included.

4.       Figure 5,6 and 7 need to be discussed in details.

Author Response

We very much acknowledge the comments and suggestions put forward by the reviewers. Following the suggestions, the manuscript has been revised, and we have also taken the opportunity to reformulate sections that needed clarification. We have uploaded below a pdf file containing the itemized answers to both reviewers.

Reviewer 2 Report

I reviewed the manuscript titled “Biological hydrogen production by dark fermentation in a stirred tank reactor and its correlation with the pH time evolution”. In general, this study is interesting and relevant to this journal. However, there is still room to improve the texture of the manuscript.

- Novelty should be clearly mentioned in the manuscript.

-2.1 – not sufficient (needs more explanations)

-There is a lack of a description of the isolated bacteria and their characteristics. Methods for identifying isolated strains are not given.

-The microorganisms name should be in italic (Line 109)

-Line 60 –– give more information about material

-Line 133 – abbreviation

-Line 157 – check

-3.3 – Eqn 2 -?

-Check figures 2,3 &4 and tables 3

-Add more discussion in the results

-References need to adhere to the journal format
