Review report for remotesensing-1946753

Brief Description of the Work

The aim of the work is to study the impacts of FY-4A atmospheric motion vectors on Henan 7.20 rainstorm forecast in 2021. More in particular, the authors focused their attention to assimilate tmospheric motion vectors data in NWP models.

Main Results Obtained

The topic treated in this work is interesting. Data from the AMVs of China's next-generation geostationary satellite FY-4A could provide potential benefits for numerical weather prediction in the Asian region. FY-4A AMVs with different QI values were used to improve the forecasting of extreme rainstorm events occurring in Henan Province, China, from July 18 to 20, 2021. The impact of assimilated FY-4A AMVs on the 7.20 rainstorm in Henan Province was evaluated and studied.

Questions/Suggestions

Q/S1) Why not mark both boxes in Figure 1? The correctness of the WRF model simulation results needs to be compared with the observations.

Q/S2) The physical meaning of Figure 6 is not clear, suggest deleting or improving.

Q/S3) Figure 13 and figure 14 Further improvements needed.

Conclusions

As mentioned, the work is interesting, but it is not yet suitable published in the present form as there are some points to be clarified. The authors are strongly encouraged to take into account the suggestions expressed above.
