Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Reviewer comment

This paper aims to study the effect of Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) antistripping agent on performance of waste engine oil-rejuvenated asphalt binders and mixtures. The authors addressed a very current and interesting topic. It is a strong study in terms of methodology. In addition, it is understood from the organization of the paper that the researchers are experts in the field.

Introduction

·           In the second line of the fifth paragraph, authors state: “the existing study was conducted to examine the effects of an antistripping agent.” which study? If it your study, I suggest authors to rewrite: “the current study” instead of “existing study”.

·           Please clearly clarify the research gaps in your study in comparison to previous related topics in the introduction?

Materials, simple preparation, and methods

·           I suggested authors to briefly summarize each text instead of giving more details since they are all knew to the audience.

·           Since authors have provided an image of the device in the case of rutting test, I advised them to do so with others test for uniformity (Section 2.3.1 to 2.3.7).

·           I suggested authors to make a clear flowchart of their methodology, including materials, methods, etc….

Conclusion

·           I suggest authors to summarize the most important findings point by point instead of making it very lengthy.

·           I suggest authors to elucidate their research limitations along with future studies recommendation.

Dear authors

Thanks for the effort

This study was achieved o examine the influence of nano-ZycoTherm as warm mix asphalt (WMA) antistripping agent on the performance of waste engine oil rejuvenated asphalt mixtures. The characteristics of seven asphalts, containing virgin asphalt, were experienced. Although a lot of laboratory work has been done, the fundamental questions remain:

- Doesn't the addition of waste engine oil reduce the performance characteristics of zycotherm and additives for warm hot asphalt production? Please explain more.

- Explain the process of obtaining aged bitumen from RAP, the aged bitumen comes with a filler that is difficult to separate.

- Because the chemical components of zycotherm affect the behavior of this substance, can you explain more about the chemical characteristics of this substance that changed its behavior when mixed with bitumen?

- Sustainability journal is about environmental issues, explain more about these wastes and their destructive effects and WAM benefits.

- The tests performed are more about the asphalt mixture, while the additives used affect the behavior of the bitumen more, explain the results of the relevant investigations more.

- Polymers, as the most important family of bitumen modifiers, are added to bitumen to improve performance and increase the efficiency of the final mixture. Adding polymer to bitumens has positive effects on their properties and performance at high and low temperatures, resistance to rutting, and thermal cracking. Polymers reduce the heat sensitivity of bitumen, especially at high temperatures when bitumen flows, increase the resistance of asphalt mixtures against fatigue and increase bitumen adhesion. In the article, please deal more with the subject of bitumen tests and the results of the effect of the(WAO and Zycoterm) additives used on the performance of aged bitumen.
