Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors present a detailed research on the challenges and opportunities for circular economy promotion in the building sector with the adoption of interview. The hard work of the authors are appreciated. There are some points which can help with the improvement of the manuscript.

  1. The study focuses on the interview-based approach. It is advised that some empirical applications or analyses to be conducted besides the interview, so that the study can be more objective.
  2. It is advised that the authors need to reconsider the structure of the conclusion part. This section is too lengthy currently, making it very difficult to grasp the main findings and impacts of this study.

The paper is interesting, and the study is relevant.
Just a few minor remarks:
Please consider proofreading the entire paper by the authors - themselves or by a college or a native speaker to eliminate minor language issues.
Lines 117-118 -maybe it should be the 3R  "reduce, reuse, and recycle."
Please consider revising lines 155-157, as the meaning is unclear, probably redundant.
Suggested edition:
"Those interviewees understand the challenges and opportunities, thanks to the initiatives they carried out or were in progress at the time of the interview."
Line 169 -  probably EC should be CE
Lines 214-216 - please consider revising, meaning is unclear
Lines 237-239 - please consider changing redundant words
Lines 243-246 & 255-257 - please consider revising, meaning is unclear
Lines 276-278 - please consider revising, probably "If we are working at the building scale, we need to know the quality of the materials and to know which sector they can go to, can it go towards reuse or it is going to be recycled and so on."
Lines 408-412 - please consider revising, meaning is unclear
Lines 520-521 - please consider revising, meaning is unclear
Please consider renaming chapter 5. Conclusion - 5. Discussion
Lines 610-626 - please consider removing redundant words
Please consider adding a concise conclusion, to sum up the relevant findings in a few sentences

It is difficult, if not impossible, to calculate the performance of reused or recycled materials. The materials must meet certain expected qualities: stability, flexibility, resistance to deformation, strength, to name just a few. Therefore, the building industry is specific for 3 R principles - "reduce, reuse, and recycle." Please consider addressing this common opinion.
