Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper investigates the impact of consumer-oriented altruism on sustainability of a green agricultural supply chain. The topic is important and fits the scope of SUSTAINABILITY. It’s really necessary to explore all the three dimensions including economic, environmental, and social sustainability of the green agricultural supply chain in a systematic way. It’s also interesting to take consumer-oriented altruism instead of widely adopted enterprise-oriented altruism into the consideration in the research domain of green agricultural supply chain. The theoretical and practical significance of this paper is relatively obvious. However, the following changes are required before publication:

1. On page 7, author(s) should rephrase the terminology altruistic strength in more detail.

2. On parge 9, author(s) should give the proof of Proposition 1 to improve readability and rationality of the paper.

3. On page 10, same for Proposition 2, author(s) should offer its proof to make it more convincing.

4. On page 19, author(s) should introduce the background of governmental policy briefly, which actually support the development of Du Family Farm.

Reviewer 2 Report

The topic is interesting. There are some suggestions for improvement.

1.  The green agricultural supply chain, sustainability, consumer-oritented altruism should be explained in the Introduction.

2.  The manufacturer and the decision order between the manufacturer and the retailer mentioned in the SC should be specific.

3. This paper analysizes the green agricultural supply chain just like the manufactured goods supply chain. In reality, the farmers usually have no right to make the price of agricultural product. The output is affected by the area of farmland.

4. Compare to paper[54], what is the difference and contribution of this paper?

5. Please check the matrix H in Line 413.

6. They are wrong in Line 402 and 403, because w>=c, g>0,p>=w need to be held. Furthermore, the conditions should be given to ensure w*, g* and p* satisfying the constrains.

7. The second partial derivative is wrong in Line 431.

8. There are too many mathematical derivation. More management implication and policy should be offered.

9. How incredible to believe that the price of DU rice is CUY 256 per kilogram.

10. How to get the parameters of DFF supply chain?

11. There exist some minor error in grammar. Some paragraph can be simplified.

Reviewer 3 Report

I appreciate the authors’ efforts in the work concerning operational decision and sustainability of green agricultural supply chain with consumer-oriented altruism. The paper is well structured and it provides an interesting analysis of the topic:

-     The information is relatively easy to navigate, and the structure of the paper allows readers to analyze the concepts approached.

-          The literature review provides a good background of the domain.

-          The authors bring relevant and interesting arguments to the investigated field.

However, to enhance the quality of the study, it would be wise to pay attention to several issues:

(1)   Authors are strongly recommended to do extensive editing of their revised draft (for example: “Many attentions have been paid” must be replaced with “Much attention has been paid”; “Firstly, few discussed the social sustainability, although many about economic and environmental dimensions.” Has to be reformulated, as the message is not very clearly understood, etc.).

(2)   I recommend a different section to be included in the paper: “Findings”, where authors can present and detail the findings and importance of the study results.

(3)   Some citations are missing, for example: in lines 32-34, authors state “According to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2022, nearly one-tenth of the world population, 828 million people, suffered from hunger in 2021.”, but there is no reference to the State of Food Security and Nutrition. Authors are advised to carefully check the entire paper for any missing references and to add them to the list.
