Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This article focuses on the impact of Lean Management Practices on Economic Sustainability in the Service Sector. It is a timely research, of interest to both academics and practitioners.

What I am going to refer to in this review should be seen from the perspective of improving the content of the article.

Firstly, the authors are to be congratulated for having developed a model that best measures the impact of lean management practices on economic sustainability, especially for firms working in services sector. And it is in this last issue that the article is relevant, given that many lean practices have been used in production and not so much in services.

The article follows an appropriate structure, as it presents in the introduction: a brief presentation of the topic, the research gap, objectives, contributions (theoretical-practical) and presentation of the next sections. However, I think it might be useful to present a research question or two.

The article has some minor shortcomings, in fact, several minor shortcomings. Which means maybe it was written a little too hastily. See for example:

- line 100: "Lean Management", lean is in lowercase.

- line 107. Before "First, the Jidoka", I think there is double space.

- line 118, line 227, line 240. Quotations appear before the full stop.

- etc.

A conceptual framework should be presented in the literature review section. The article presents 40 references and some are quite outdated. Thus, I would like the authors to present some arguments that allow to mitigate this issue.

I would also like the authors to present some solid comments on the results generalization. Are the results generalizable to other countries or regions of the globe?

Overall, in addition to the conceptual issue, I think the strong point of the article is the presentation of a lot of data, which gives it some solidity.
