Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is a comprehensive review regsrding the potential role of microbiota in oral cavity carcinogenesis. The article is well written and despite orher reviews recently published on the same topic this work seems to be more complete and exhaustive. My only suggestion is to implement bibliography section with these new publications

Author Response

Dear reviewer 1,

We sincerely thank you for your kind suggestion to improve this manuscript. We have searched the relevant papers published in 2023 using the key word “Microbiota”, “Oral Microbiome”, “Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Head and Neck”, “Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma”, “Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders”, “Diagnosis”, and “Prognosis”as well, in PubMed and Med-line databases and cited these new publications in the manuscript. The corresponding revisions are either highlighted or in track changes in the re-submitted files.
Please don't hesitate to email us if you have more suggestions or questions.

Reviewer 2 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

In this review, authors summarized the possible role of oral microbiome on the development and progression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). This review is logical and interesting. The reviewer feels that this review is suitable for publication in the Current Oncology after minor modification described below. Figure 1 is difficult to read, authors should improve it.

Author Response

Dear reviewer 2,

Thank you so much for your constructive comments. To make the words in Figure 1 easier to read. based on your comment, I have changed the color of the figure. The corresponding revisions are in track changes in the re-submitted files.

Reviewer 3 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This review is important to the developing field that studies the relationship between oral microbiome and oral oncogenesis. The review provides a clear organizational relationship that will assist investigators not very familiar with oral biology and risks associated with oral microbiome regarding molecular biology effects upon oral epithelial cell viability and response to a complex microenvironment. This review also is distinguished by citations and inclusion of a variety of significant cellular signal networks that are neglected when considering targets for suppression of oncogenesis.

I would accept this review.

Author Response

Dear reviewer 3,

Thank you so much for your kind comments, and it is gratefully appreciated. We take your comments as encouragement and trust. Surely your comments will  inspire us to work out more papers in the near future.
