Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Topic aims to explore the integration of mindfulness communication within the context of sustainable urban development. As cities face increasing challenges related to urbanization, climate change, and social inequalities, mindfulness practices offer innovative solutions for enhancing communication, fostering community engagement, and promoting sustainable behaviors. We welcome contributions that explore the intersection of mindfulness, communication strategies, and sustainability in cities.

The following topics are of particular interest:

  • Mindfulness in Urban Communication: How mindfulness practices can be integrated into communication strategies to foster effective dialogue, collaboration, and decision-making in urban development processes. This includes the role of mindfulness in promoting active listening, empathy, and thoughtful communication in urban planning and policy discussions.
  • Mindful Approaches to Sustainable Urban Behavior: Investigating how mindfulness can encourage sustainable behaviors at the individual and collective levels. This may involve the promotion of eco-friendly habits, energy conservation, and the reduction of waste through mindful consumption and community involvement.
  • Mindfulness and Social Cohesion in Urban Communities: Exploring how mindfulness-based communication strategies can strengthen social ties and promote social justice, inclusivity, and cooperation within urban communities. This also includes addressing the challenges of social inequality and building more resilient, supportive communities.
  • Mindfulness in Environmental and Climate Change Communication: How mindfulness can be used to enhance communication about climate change and environmental issues, fostering greater understanding, emotional resilience, and collective action for sustainability.
  • Mindfulness and Urban Well-being: Examining the impact of mindfulness on urban residents' mental health and well-being, including reducing stress and anxiety in urban environments, enhancing quality of life, and supporting emotional and psychological resilience amidst rapid urban changes.
  • Mindfulness in Urban Policy and Governance: Investigating how mindfulness can be applied in policy-making, governance, and city management to promote long-term sustainable development. This includes exploring the integration of mindfulness into governmental processes, citizen engagement, and sustainable governance models.
  • Cross-Cultural Applications of Mindfulness in Sustainable Cities: Research on how mindfulness communication can transcend cultural barriers to foster a global perspective on sustainable urban development, particularly in cities with diverse cultural backgrounds.
