Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Topic, “Molecular Cardio-Oncology and Exposomics”, aims to bridge cardiology, oncology, environmental health, molecular medicine, and data science by publishing innovative studies that elucidate how environmental, therapeutic, lifestyle, and biological exposures contribute to cardiovascular disease, cancer development, treatment-related toxicity, and survivorship. The Topic particularly emphasizes precision prevention, early detection, personalized risk stratification, and novel therapeutic strategies at the intersection of heart disease and cancer. The Topic covers the following areas:
(1) Exposomics, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Health Research, addressing the role of environmental, occupational, and lifestyle exposures in the development, progression, and prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease, including environmental pollutants and emerging contaminants; occupational and lifestyle exposures; exposome profiling and gene–environment interactions; climate change, urban exposome, and planetary health; and environmental determinants of cancer and cardiovascular outcomes
(2) Molecular Mechanisms, Aging, and Systems Biology Studies, investigating the biological mechanisms linking environmental exposures, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, including mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and genotoxicity; inflammation, clonal hematopoiesis, immunometabolism, microbiome dysbiosis, senescence; epigenetics, extracellular vesicles, and inter-organ communication; biological aging, inflammaging, frailty, and aging clocks; and multi-omics, biomarker discovery, systems biology, and precision prevention.
(3) Artificial Intelligence, Digital Health, and Computational Medicine Research, focused on innovative computational approaches for prediction, diagnosis, monitoring, and precision medicine, including artificial intelligence and machine learning; cardiotoxicity prediction and risk modeling; radiomics, imaging analytics, and ECG-AI; wearable technologies and remote monitoring; and digital biomarkers, digital twins, and computational health models.
(4) Precision Cardio-Oncology and Reverse Cardio-Oncology, featuring clinical and translational research focused on the bidirectional interactions between cardiovascular disease and cancer, encompassing prevention, treatment-related cardiovascular toxicity, survivorship, and reverse cardio-oncology mechanisms, including personalized surveillance, risk stratification, pharmacogenomics, and individualized cardioprotection; cardiovascular complications of cancer therapies, including anthracycline cardiotoxicity, CAR-T-associated cardiovascular toxicities, radiation-induced cardiovascular disease, vascular toxicity, and arrhythmias; biomarkers, cardiac imaging, survivorship medicine, and long-term outcomes; lifestyle medicine, exercise, nutrition, microbiome-based prevention strategies, and sex- and gender-related differences in cancer and cardiovascular disease; amd reverse cardio-oncology, including heart failure-associated cancer development, cardiovascular-driven tumor progression, and heart–tumor metabolic cross-talk.
The objective of this Topic is to present the most recent advancements in the field of exposomics, environmental health, molecular medicine, cardio-oncology, aging biology, and precision medicine, fostering discoveries that improve cardiovascular and cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship.
